The History of Golden Grove Orchard

The Chittering region is nestled in the northern hills of the Darling Range, only 45 minutes from Perth but feeling a world away from the city. The region encompasses the towns of Muchea, Bindoon and little known Wannamal, as well as Lower Chittering, Upper Chittering and Mooliabeenie and offers a glimpse into country life, with farms, orchards and nature at your fingertips.

Golden Grove Orchard, Lower Chittering, was originally established in in the fertile plains of the Chittering Valley in 1928, and was one of the first orchards planted in the region. The orchard has been open to the public for fruit picking, since 1978, when it’s previous owners, Rocco and Connie Zampogna bought it as a neglected citrus orchard and turned it into a must-do for locals and visitors alike. Golden Grove Orchard is also the first orchard in Western Australia to process oranges and make freshly squeezed 100% orange juice, which has become highly prized and very popular with the general public.

The orchard was purchased by Adam and Caz Saunders in early 2020 and has since gone on to offer a extensive array of fruit picking and picnic experiences. With grand plans up his sleeve, Adam (CEO of Explore Tours Perth) is definitely one to keep an eye on as this fantastic historical orchard goes from strength to strength.
